A Note from Ashley – April 2016 Newsletter

What’s in the name “Young Adult?
Did you know that at FPC, we are engaging roughly 180 different young adults EACH MONTH? Did you know that since January 1, 2015, 23 young adults have become members of FPC with more in the current Inquirer’s Class? Did you know that within the past two years, 800 young adults have walked through our doors at least once? Sometimes folks ask us, “Is there really a Young Adult presence at FPC?” The answer is yes.

Often folks also say to Josh and I, “I don’t think I’m a young adult,” whether it’s because of their age, marital status, kid count, etc. But here’s the thing. As much as it would make our jobs easier if the young adult ministry’s lines were more clear cut (you have no idea), they just aren’t. At First Presbyterian Church, we consider “Young Adults” to be those in the community in their 20s and 30s. What’s crazy about that is, within that age range you can easily differentiate four or five communities of their own: single, married, married without children, married with children (so that those kiddos become a part of our ministry as well), single again, and on and on and on. Young Adult ministry is messy but it is exciting. And at FPC, it is most assuredly growing. We are having a ball experimenting and exploring the ways we might continue to be faithful to what God is up to in our YA community and the FPC community at large, working hard to engage all of the communities within the YA community. We hope you’ll join us for the ride. See you in church and around town.
